Client: Carvieira Handicrafts
Project: logo
Carvieira Handicrafts Ecuador is a company that exports handicrafts from the four regions of Ecuador, in South America. Their products are traditionally handmade with natural fibers and materials such as straw toquilla, cotton, wool, alpaca wool, cotton, wax thread, edible seeds, coconut and tagua nut. I designed this logo based on the findings of my undergraduate thesis, which involved, among others, the perceptions and needs of people who purchase handicrafts on the handicrafts market of my city of origin.
This logo also considered the tested graphical proposal I conducted. Originally, the logo was designed in Spanish version (2003) but when I moved to New Zealand and started promoting my business online and in A&P shows, the logo was presented in English version (2008).
I designed the logo inspired in the silhouette of the face, hat and hands of an artisan who is handwoven a braid using a natural fibre. I chose an earthy colour due to according to my investigation, people related this colour with handicrafts. I chose the shape of the braid to be circular as a way to represent the integration of artisans from the four regions of Ecuador. I also designed brochures, flyers, stock stickers, packaging and the layout of its Website www.carvieirahandicrafts.com
